A high-tech ownership experience is a core
advantage of the 2019 Audi A4. Yet the A4 retains its everyman appeal and
fun-to-drive chops. There’s also a lot of attention to detail on display in the
well-tailored cabin. The A4 compact luxury sedan is in the same segment as the
BMW 3 Series, Genesis G70 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Higher levels of
performance come in the Audi S4 sedan, while the Audi A4 Allroad has a rugged
wagon-style appearance. Five-passenger seating is standard in the A4 sedan.
This year’s trim levels are Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige. With the
standard powertrain, buyers get a turbocharged four-cylinder engine,
seven-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is
available.
New standard features include
trapezoid-shaped rear exhaust outlets. Models equipped with all-wheel drive
wear new S line front and rear bumpers for a sportier touch. Wireless charging
is newly standard for 2019 models starting in the Premium Plus trim.
The A4 has a sculpted low-profile dashboard
that’s dominated by a horizontal strip of climate vents. A flared
instrument-panel hood and free-standing infotainment screen top the dash and
add to the purposeful look. The A4’s standard 40/20/40-split folding rear seats
complement 13 cubic feet of trunk space. Cargo measurements with the seats
folded down were not available.
Leather seats are standard with eight-way
power-adjustable heated front seats, four-way power-adjustable lumbar control
for the driver, tri-zone automatic climate control and a multifunction steering
wheel. The available Black Optic Plus package adds black leather seats, red
contrast stitching, stainless steel pedal caps and a flat-bottomed sport
steering wheel. Sport seats and aluminum inlays distinguish the optional Sport
package. The A4’s options include climate-controlled front seats, heated rear
seats, real wood inlays and a heated steering wheel.
The standard engine for the 2019 A4 is a
turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit with 188 horsepower and 236
pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and
front-wheel drive are also standard. If buyers opt for an all-wheel-drive
model, the same size turbo engine is boosted to 248 horsepower and 273
pound-feet of torque. This setup takes the A4 from 0 to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds,
which is a full 1.5 seconds faster than with the standard powertrain.
The EPA gives the Audi A4 a fuel economy
rating of 27/34 mpg city/highway. To enjoy an optimum performance in the A4,
buyers can combine the Quattro all-wheel-drive option with an available sport
suspension. The result is a noticeable increase in agility to go with the A4’s
brisk acceleration.
