HOW MANY MILES CAN YOU PUT ON A BMW 5 SERIES ?
If you're talking about the new ones, then I'd say not too many miles and here why.
I own a 2012 BMW 5 series, the F07 to be exact. It's very nice to drive and it doesn't get old from outside or inside. Bought it with 60k km (37k miles), now it has 120k km (74k miles). I own it since September 2016. When i bought it, it was in mint condition. Everything was working fine. But the fun began about a month or two after purchase.
So the front suspension died (-1500$), then the rear air suspension (-500$), then the panoramic sunroof (-740$), then the air conditioning radiator (-150$), then all the touch sensor door handles (-900$), also the led floor panels with the bmw logo (-120$), not to mention the electronic sun visor on the rear right door (-100$), oh and the fuel pump (-250$) and many other stuff I can't remember now. Thats in 4 years!
Now the thing is, that we also own a 2014 toyota land cruiser, bought it in 2015 with about 28k miles and now it has about 140k miles. We drive it everywhere, we drive it on very bumpy roads very fast! And since owning it, we changed the front bushings for 30$. Yes thats all we did to that toyota. Of course it gets serviced, like oil change and so on. I'm talking about things that went wrong.
So here's to conclude my story, if you want a BMW, always get a new one, that will last for four years maybe five. If you want to just drive and keep your money to yourself, get a Japanese car, toyota, lexus. They're cheaper to maintain but 0 joy to drive. If i had to chose now, I'd still get a bmw, because i enjoy driving it, but my brain would go with a toyota or a lexus.

AirREX Full Kit BMW 5 Series E39 97-03
AirREX Suspension System features vehicle specific upper mount, 12 clicks adjustable damper, double convoluted bellow, twist lock compression fitting, fully threaded damper and vehicle specific lower mount. Every AirREX upper mount is CNC machined from 6061 aluminum and then hard anodized. High density polyurethane bushings and or high performance bearings completes the package to ensure exact fitment and durability. These upper mounts not only simplify installation but also improve ride quality, handling, and help provide maximum drop by replacing the bulky OEM upper mount. A 12-way compression and rebound adjustable damper is standard in every AirREX application. Each damper is matched to the air spring for the vehicle application and the user can further adjust for performance or comfort by the simple turn of a knob. High durability 2-ply double convoluted air springs help provide both a comfortable ride at driving height and maximum drop when aired out. The size of the bellow is carefully chosen by AirREX engineers for each application to ensure correct spring rate and proper clearance for the vehicle. Compression fittings are used to ensure a reliable leak free seal when used with 6 mm or .25 inch DOT nylon air tubing. Each AirREX damper is fully threaded to maximize adjustability similar to that of a coil over.
